The Wizard of Oz (1939)

Judy Garland had an extraordinary well of pain, right beneath the surface, that she could draw on in her performances.
My dear friend Jellyfish recently showed us the movie Summer Stock. It contains a scene where Garland’s character cries over a broken tractor, which was so moving it nearly broke my heart.

There’s an outtake from The Wizard of Oz which is the audio of Judy singing a reprise of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” when she has been captured by the witch. I actually cannot listen to it because it is straight up heartbreaking. As my grandma used to say… poor lovely Judy.

If only they had kept this in.
